WELLINGTON WINS FINAL -—• ; (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, Today. In the finals of the primary schools’ Soccer tournament, Wellington beat Waikato by two goals to one. The weather was fine, and there was a large crowd. Waikato was much the heavier team. From the kick-off, Wellington attacked, but was repulsed, and Waikato stormed the Wellington goal, but an offside pass spoilt the movement. Another back attack saw a foul by Waikato. Wellington made no mistake with the penalty. Play was fast and exciting to half-time, when there was no further score. Wellington 1, Waikato 0. On resuming, sparkling football was witnessed. There was great excitement as Waikato broke away. The goalie ran out, but the winger sent the ball in over his head. Score: 1 all. Wellington attacked hard, and after some keen play scored another goal. Wellington 2, Waikato 1. There was no further score. Wellington thus won the shield—a very popular victory. Auckland beat Manawatu by five goals to 0. Auckland showed a better combination, and was too strong all round. . It should have scored more. Auckland is bringing the Skerrett Cup back with it. SOCCER CONCERT A most successful smoke concert was held in the Masonic Hall last evening by the Xorthcote and Birkenhead United Association Football Club. Mr. E. C. Davy, vice-president, presiding over a large gathering of Soccer enthusiasts. There were present representatives of the various football codes, and included among the visitors were Mr. J. J. Wright, chairman of the Referees’ Examination Board, Mr. R. Downes, secretary Ponsonby Club, Mr. Hunt, president Ponsonby Club, and Mr. L J. Check. Auckland Football As- ! sociation. Complimentary remarks were made by the various speakers on the success of the club in its first playing year, and best wishes were extended for its future success. The fol- ; lowing toasts were duly honoured: ; Auckland Football Association, proposed by Mr. Stephenson, responded to ' by Mr. L. J. Check. Referees. Mr. W. Elsby, responded to by Mr. J. J. Wright. Kindred Club and Sports, Mr. F. Q. Fullbrook. responded to by Mr. Hunt and Mr. Reed, Xorthcote Ramblers (League). Songs were sung by Mr. A. Borrows , and Mr. C. Hunter.
