A FEAST OF CRICKET
ALTHOUGH the football season is at its height at present, it is north noting that, in a few months’ time, an English cricket team will he in our midst. Gilligan's touring M.C.C. side is due at Wellington in December, so that it is only a matter of a month or so before the selected members of the team will be packing up their gear in readiness for the trip. The fact that A. E. R. Gilligan, an ex-Test match captain, will lead a side which includes players of the calibre of Frank Woolley, Duleepsinhji and our old friend, Ted Bowley, is sufficient guarantee of the strength of the side. Woolley and Duleepsinhji—these are names to conjure with. They suggest brisk and breezy batting, the style of cricket the crowd loves. Auckland established a record for New Zealand with a Test "gate” of over 21.000 when the last Australian team was here. This time, it has been favoured with the third (and let us hope, deciding) Test against the Englishmen, from February 14 to IT. On the previous week. Auckland itself will meet the AI.C.C. The da.es are rather (dose together, but. apart from that, we have been well treated. The middle of February will be a real feast of cricket in Auckland.
