GOLF TOURNAMENT
FINALS AT ROTORUA (From Our Oicn Correspondent) ROTORUA, Today. In wonderful weather* the semi-finals of the Rotorua Golf Championship and Thermal Cup were played yesterday. Some excellent exhibitions of golf were witnessed by the large followings. The best game of the championship semi-finals was that between Rex George and Seifert. Both were playing good, consistent golf. Once more the variety of the greens seemed to baffle the. players, though the putting of Seifert showed improvement. The match was all square at the turn. At the long 10th George played a perfect birdie 4 to win the hole, and his opponent, hitting his drive out of bounds at the 11th, conceded George another win. Holes were halved till the 15th, when George added another win with another birdie. The 16th was halved and George by more consistent play won 3 and 2. Long driving and comparatively poor putting were the features of Morrico v. (TCallaghan. The local player, Morrice, however, was too steady and accurate for his opponent and he won comfortably by 6 and 4. In the Thermal Cup Rainger and Goss had a great fight. Good golf was played by both players, and as the result shows was in doubt till the 20th. Western was far too * steady for Bartleet, winning comfortably by 5 and 4. The finals of both events will be played over 36 holes today, together with the semi-finals and finals of the Dominion Veterans’ Cup. Very close and exciting matches are predicted, no great odds being offered any player TODAY’S PLAY The Rotorua Golf Championships were continued this morning-.
