GISBORNE SUPREME COURT SENTENCES MAORIS IMPRISONED Press Association GISBORNE, Today. In the Supreme Court Henry Mackay, aged 36, described by the Judge as a sexual pervert and a menace to society, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for indecently assaulting a boy. Another prisoner, William Henry Gleye, characterised by the Judge as a dangerous man, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for carnal knowledge. Frederick James Harvey was sentenced to four years, and Hotene Rehutai to five years, on charges of incest, and Tarapa, aged 23, a Maori woman with five young children, who pleaded guilty to two charges of arson, was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Rawiri Wharehunga and Taiera Pokai, charged with breaking and entering the Tuaroa Trading Company's store, pleaded guilty. The former was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, the latter to IS months’ reformative detention.
