TUAKAU BRIDGE
FERRY FARES REDUCED PROGRESS OF REPAIRS (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. The ferry charg«e across the Waikato River at Tuakau ftave been reduced. Settlers of Northern Raglan, Onewhero Ratepayers’ Association, members of the Raglan County Council, the engineer, Mr. K. M. Wright, and an official of the Public Works Department waited on the Roose Shipping Company, requesting a reduction in charges. It was agreed to reduce the single fares of cars, motor-lorries and wagons to 4s, passengers in cars to 6d, pedestrians Is, manures and goods Is a ton and horses to 2s a head. A timetable was also arranged. The fery will leave the Tuakan landing at 8 a.m„ 10 a.m., 12 noon, 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Onewhero landing at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. Timber has been landed and repairs commenced yesterday. Electric lights have been erected to facilitate repairs during the night. It is expected the bridge will be reopened in three weeks.
