SCHOOL BOARD WARNED A warning that the Auckland Grammar School Board may soon go out of existence through the many checks placed on its activities, was contained In a letter received by the board yesterday afternoon from Mr. H. E. Vail«h a former member, who wrote acknowledging a resolution thanking him for past services. Instead of appreciating and valuing the large amount of purely gratuitous work done by the members, the Government officials seem to take pleasure in opposing their wishes, placing obstacles in their way. and raising the most absurd quibbles,” stated Mr. Valle. “It was galling to me to see the ideas of serious-minded men with the interests of the schools before them overridden by a set of civil servants sitting in Wellington who cannot possibly know anything about it. If the board does not take a serious stand against the interference of the Education and Audit Departments, it seems to me it must soon go out of existence, or else have nothing to do but spend the £25 per annum shown as unauthorised expenditure.”
