ENTERTAINING COMEDY
LAST NIGHT OF “PIGS” The success of the first performance of “Pigs,” a comedy of American small-town life, played at His Majesty’s on Tuesday, attracted another large audience last evening, when the J. C. Williamson Company concluded its successful Auckland season. Clean, wholesome comedy predominates in this entertaining comedy from the pen of Anne Morrison and Patterson McNutt. It is particularly refreshing in that it proves conclusively that stage humour can always be clean and good. Mr. Alan Bunce, as Atkins Junior, who sets out to save the old home by means of a big deal in pigs, and Miss Nugent, his fiancee, who gives him a “helping” hand, again gave excellent performances. They were well supported by Mr. G. H. Trader, as Thomas Atkins, Mr. Reginald Newson, as Hector Spencer, and Miss Gertrude Augarde, as Grandma Spencer, Miss Viola Fortescue as Ellen Atkins and Mr. Frank Fox as Spence Atkins. It is to be regretted that a longer season could not be played with this entertaining comedy. At the conclusion of the performance Miss Nugent, Mr. Bunce and Mr. G. H. Trader thanked the audience for the support extended during the season.
