BIG STORE DESTROYED GROCERY STOCK LOST Press Association TE KTJITI, Today. A big fire occurred in King Street just after midnight, when a large wooden store, owned by Barraud and Abraham was completely destroyed, with all its contents. In front was an iron constructed building used by Barraud and Abraham as offices, and Ronald Cooke and Company as a grocery shop. This was badly gutted and the stock destroyed. Barraud and Abraham’s stock was valued at about £SOO and Cooke’s at a much larger sum. The buildings were insured for £2,000 in the New Zealand Insurance Company. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is supposed to have started in pack-ing-cases outside the building. BURGLARY AND FIRE THIEF TAKES £8 HOUSE IN DISORDER (Special to TUB SDN) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. After a fire in the Estelle Briggs hairdressing parlour in Water Street had been suppressed it was found that the place had been entered and £8 stolen. A constable, who discovered the fire early this morning, found the place full of smoke. The firemen soon extinguished the outbreak and ascertained it had started in a mattress. The proprietors, Mr. and Mrs. R. Briggs, were away at the time, and on their return it was discovered that £S had been stolen from the premises. A broken door showed that a forced entry had been made. Articles of clothing had been left strewn in disorder. OUTBREAK AT THAMES EMPTY HOUSE BURNT (From Our Oxen Correspondent) THAMES, Today. Another fire in the same locality as the one on Sunday night occurred here at 9.30 last evening. A five-roomed house, owned by Mr. Cecil Strange, but unoccupied at the time of the outbreak, was destroyed. With no water supply available the brigade was powerless to do anything. A bucket brigade saved the outbuildings. The house was insured for £IOO,
