WOMEN’S AIR DERBY
MRS. THADEN WINS FROM MISS EARHART MRS. MILLER’S SUCCESS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9 a.m. NEW YORK, Tues. The women’s Air Derby was won by Mrs. Thaden. She led the 13 competitors who finished the course at Cleveland. Ohio. The winner’s time was 20 hours 19 minutes 2 seconds for the 2,100 miles from Santa Monica. Miss O'Donnell was second (21 hours 21 minutes 42 seconds) and Miss Amelia Earliart, the Atlantic flyer, third (22 hours 16 minutes 42 seconds). These three will divide £1,970 in prize-money. The flyers were greeted with wild applause by 25,000 spectators at the Aerial Convention. All the competitors except Fraulein Thea Rasche (Germany) refused to believe tbe reports of sabotage. They all seemed eager to talk about the good sportsmanship of their rivals. Mrs. Keith Miller's trouble with the motor of her machine prevented her from arriving at Cleveland with the others. Mrs. Miller was named the winner of the women’s 50-mile race, when Miss Omlie was disqualified, as also was Miss Earhart. The second place went to Lady Heath and the third to Mrs. Blanche Noyes, ot Cleveland. Mrs. Miller’s time was 30 minutes 23 seconds. and Lady Heath's 31 minutes 11 seconds.
