The Graf Zeppelin, which left Los Angeles for Lakehurst, New Jersey, at 12.14 a.m. on the last stage of her flight round the world, was last reported over Arizona in favourable weather. A later message said the airship, flying low, was seen over Columbus, New Mexico, at 3.40 p.m., en route to El Paso, Texas. After leaving El Paso the Zeppelin will go direct to Lakehurst, New Jersey. Commander Byrd sent a message of congratulation to Dr. Huga Eckener, commander of the Graf Zeppelin. “We watched the trip across Siberia most anxiously, for everyone knew that this was the most difficult part* of the journey,” he said. The broadcast from Los Angeles was picked up, and for hours here the men lay in their bunks and listened to the descriptions of the crowds and of the motor-cars filling the roads round the field. They almost imagined themselves hack at home. Then camf word that the ship had been sighted, and was waiting for daylight to moor.
