DEBRIS AT WESTPORT

DISPOSAL PROBLEMS EMBANKMENT EXTENSION Press Association WESTPORT, Tuesday. Since the earthquake, in which brick buildings, chimneys and brick walls suffered severely, all available motorlorries have been actively engaged in carting debris to various dumping grounds. With very little spare space in close proximity to the damaged areas the sides of numerous streets are now paved with bricks, mortar and concrete. The embankment approaching Orowaiti Bridge has been built up and considerably widened with debris and the widened embankment is now proving a boon to motorists. Residents of the earthquake area are likely in future to put more trust in timber structures, which have stood shocks so well.
