The big fellow is looking nice and bright and will probably undergo a preparation for hurdle events- at the spring meeting of the Avondale Jockey Club, preliminaries to the steeplechase races at Ellerslie in October. Let Through Track work indicated that KingEmerald would have a good chance of' winning the Jellicoe Handicap. at Ellerslie on Saturday, but after meeting with two sorts of luck in the race he beat all but Barometer. lie was one of the last.to Jeave the barrier, and what this means at the mile and a-quarter peg at Ellerslie those connected with the sport well know. However. along the back King Emerald made a fine run on the rails, and moved up from second to last to fifth, one or two other riders very kindly pulling out and letting him through. At the home turn King Emerald was fourth, and after his earlier effort he hung on very well to get second money. The Nassau gelding should be a good stake earner this season, and two or three of
those country cups may be won if sought.
