NIGHT CARNIVAL

BIG PROCESSION ARRANGED TO ASSIST CITY MISSION FOOTBALL AT BLANDFORD PARK Queen Street illuminated with the glare of many lights—a long procession featuring collectors in fancy costumes, three bands and decorated and illuminated vehicles of various types—Blandford Park lighted and appearing in gala array—burlesque football and other matches. Such makes up an entertaining programme for Saturday evening, which has been arranged by the Auckland Tramways Relief Committee in a drive to collect funds for Jasper Cal/Jer and Sister Esther’s City Mission. r jPHIS is to 1)© the first of a series of ‘‘•‘iviiis organised by the Tramways Relief Committee, which consists of a joint committee representative of the Social Club and the Union, to assist in various benevolent institutions and organisations. The procession, headed by the three bands, the Ponsonby Boys’ Band, the \\ aterside Workers’ Band and the Pipers, will leave Quay Street at 7 o’clock. It will proceed up Queen Street to Wellesley Street and thence to Blandford Park. Auckland’s business houses have fallen in with the idea in grand style, and apart from the Transport Board’s effort in supplying buses, which will be illuminated and decorated, there will be many other forms of vehicles adorned in queer but gay fashion. Running afongside the procession and dancing about the streets will be collectors pleasingly costumed in various fancy dresses and into their boxes tlio passers-by are expected to drop their coins—all for a good cause. At Blandford Park shortly before 8 o’clock a burlesque football match, featuring Jasper's “Die-Hards,” will be staged, and this will be followed by something to be really enjoyed by the sporting public, a match between' the Tramways’ Soccer and a team representing M.M.S. Dunedin. These are two of Auckland’s crack teams. At half-time, in order to keep the carnival moving, two women’s teams will try conclusions.
