KEEN BEEF INQUIRY APPARENT VALUES FIRM SLIGHTLY Values at the weekly Westfield stock sale today were a trifle firmer and bidding for beef lines was keen. Several lines of choice steers sold at excellent prices. Alfred Lackland and Sons, Limited, reporting on tho sale, state that they penned beef to the number of 245, igainst 293 at the previous fat stock market. The yarding comprised 115 steers and 120 cows and lieifers. There "ere a few heavy cattle, but the quality generally vva& first class. Under keen competition the ratek irmed slightly. Extra choice ox beef sold at £2 4s 11001 b.: choice and fine ox beef, £2 Is *o £2 3s: secondary and plain. £1 18« to £2; fine young cow and heifer beef, £1 18s to £2 Is; ordinary cow beef, £1 14s to £1 17s. Extra heavy fine steers ranged in i"ice from £; 9 15s ; o £23 10s. The fitter price was gained for a steer •rom Mr. C. R. Morgan, of Matamata, he buyer being Mr. R. Stott, of Birkenhead. One exceptionally heavy sevenyear steer, from Mr. T. Corban, Hikutaia, realised £27. Mr. Thomas Baxter, of Ponsonby, was the buyer. Heavy prime steers brought £lB to -19 12s 6d; lighter prime steers, £l6 rt > £l7 17s 6d; light prime steers. £l4 •o £ls 17s 6d; small and unfinished, -11 to £l3 17s 6d; extra heavy -rim© cows and heifers, £ls 10s 10 £l4 15s: heavy prime M heifers, £ll 10s to £ls 8 6d; lighter prime cows >lfers. £9 to £ll 17s 6d: other kiliable cows. £5 10s to £8 17s Cd.
