FEDERATION CONFERS IN WELLINGTON IMPORT RESTRICTIONS I'rcss Association WELLINGTON, Today. The annual meeting of the Sheepowners’ federation opened this morning. Mr. H. L>. Acland presiding. The report covered the activities of the year, chiefly dealing with such work as was being carried out by the department of the Cawthron Institute. etc„ in connection with animal troubles and weeds. The executive felt justified in continuing to take every possib.e means of stressing the need for the maintenance of the present restrictions on importation from disease-affected countries. The kea came into prominence when the bird was described as a real menace in the Lake Country alone. It was stated that 8,000 had been killed and paid for in the last 10 years. Mr. Jessep. of Hawke's Bay. said the protests against the lifting of the subsidy should be supported. To listen to sentimental trash was nonsense. The clause in the report dealing with the matter was adopted. The question of advertising woollen wear is creating a long discussion, the view being taken that the manufacturers should help. The amount of advertising artificial silk is receiving in the Dominion is being stressed, also the proved value of advertisement for any sort of goods.
