ROTORUA TOURNEY (From Our Own Correspondent) ROTORUA, Monday. Play in the veterans’ cup golf series started this morning. The weather was cold and fine. In the first round Austin beat Lorrigan, 5 up and 4; Harold beat Wilkie at the 22nd hole; Scott beat Redhead, 1 up; Maingay beat McCormick, 4 and 2; Corrigan beat Pavitt, 2 up: Sommerville beat Blackburn. 2 up; Trice beat Hughes, 2 and 1; Colbeck beat Seifert, 3 and 1. In the second round. Trice (Glendowie) beat Colbeck (Auckland), 2 up, Austin (New Plymouth) beat Harold (Wanganui), 2 and 1, Corrigan (Tauranga) beat Sommerville (Rotorua) 4 and 3; Maingay (Morrinsville) beat Scott (Wellington), 2 and 1. The semi-finals and final will do played on Friday. The open tournament will begin tomorrow. CAMBRIDGE CHAMPIONSHIP (From Our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, Today. j The Cambridge Golf Club's championships reached the final stages yesterday, when in the senior championship A. H. XicoJl beat A. G. Boyce, 1 and 3, and A. W. Xicoll beat Miller. 4 and 2. The final resulted in favour of A. H. Xicoll, who beat his opponent 8 and 7. This is the fifth occasion on which A. H. XicolJ has been club champion. This year his play was very steady in the final. His work round the greens was deadly. He gave his opponent no openings. J In the junior championship Neely beat A. Pearce on the 19th green, the game , being closely contested throughout. WAIUKU The final of the championship of the Waiuku Golf Club over 36 holes was played on Thursday, and after an excellent game, Howden beat Bloomfield 1 up. At the end of the first nine holes the match was all square. Howden having the benefit of securing a half at the second by getting a stymie At the completion of the eighteenth hole, Howden was one up. after being three up ar the fourteenth. At the nineteenth a half stymie gave Howden a half in bogey 5, the twentieth being also halved in the same number. Bloomfield squared the match at the twenty-first, the next being halved in 4. With a 5 and a birdie 3 at the next two, Bloomfield was 2 up, but Howden squared the match by winning the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh in bo- ° Howden became 1 up by sinking a fairly long putt on the twenty-ninth ! after the previous hole had been halved in 5, but a birdie 2 by Bloomfield squared 1 the game at the next hole.
