“THEY SAY—”

GOSSIP OF THE FACTORIES Rumours, Rumours, Rumours! But tbere may be some foundation for them. Here is the latest crop from the car factories of the U.S.A.: An eight-cylinder front-wheel drive car, to be called the Cord, will be built by the Auburn Company. It will have if wheelbase of 137 inches, and a centre of gravity below normal. The car will be named after Mr. E. L. Cord, president of the company. At least three of the six-cylinder cars now on the market will be converted into eight-cylinder models by the beginning of next year. The Hupmobile Company is preparing to produce a new light six-cylin-der model, which will be. built in the plants of the Chandler-Cleveland Co., which Hupmobile absorbed recently. The New Era Motors Co. has been formed to build the Ruxton, a frontwheel drive car. Only two models — sedan and roadster—will be built. They will have steel bodies and interior fitting by Cartier, of Paris, the famous jeweller. Four-wheel transmissions are' under inspection and test in a number of factories, and indications are that more manufacturers will adopt them. Harry Miller, famous builder of racing cars, is building an experimental 16-cylinder car, which has a cubic piston displacement of only 91 inches. Rumours, Rumours, Rumours! But there may he some foundation for them.
