In the opening rounds of the amateur golf championship, over 36 holes, Sloan Morpeth (New Zealand) beat Bulte, 5 up and 3, after a sparkling display. Morpeth reached tho turn in 37 and was 4 up. At the end of tlie morning round he was 2 up, and 6 up at the end of 27 holes. Ivo Whitton beat Morrison. 7 up and 3. Russell beat Quirk. 4 up and 2. E. L. Apperly beat Dalrymple, 3 and 2. L. Nettlefold beat Sawyers, 2 and 1. Ryan beat Adams. 5 and 3. Winser beat Schlapp, 3 and 2. Hattersley beat McGuinne.ss, 2 and 1. In the professional championship McIntosh l New Zealand) met Spence and lost at the 37th hole. Mclntosh was two up at the end of the first round. Spence was level at the 36th hole. At the 37th hole Mclntosh put his second shot through the g*een and took 5, and lost the hole Bissett beat Corry, 2 and 1; Howard beat Robertson, 7 and 6; Stewart beat Lefevre, 4 and 3; McMahon beat Heard, 5 and 4; James beat Eyre, 2 tip.
