TRANSPORT BOARD WELCOMES WELLINGTON TEAM j MATCH FOR KOHN SHIELD Members of the Wellington Corpora- j tion Tramways Rugby football team. : who arrived in Auckland this morning to play the Auckland Tramways team for the Kohn Shield, were welcomed today by the Transport Board. The manager of the team. air. L. Leah, was introduced by air F. E. de Guerrier, engineer to the board, on behalf of the Auckland Transport Club. In welcoming the visitors the chairman of the board, air. J. A. C. Allum, said it gave him great pleasure to welcome men from Wellington. He hoped the better would win tho match at Eden Park tomorrow. He would look forward to the result with the keenest interest. The Auckland Tramway Soccer team had done well and he hoped the Rugty team would acquit itself as creditably. The trophy, said the chairman, was presen Led for annual competition among tramwaymen of the four main centres by the late Mr. Kohn. So far, however, Dunedin had not competed. Of the 14 times Auckland and Wellington had met each had won seven times, Auckland was the present holder. The underlying :dea behind the match was the promotion of good-fellowship among tramwaymen of i the Dominion. In this aim the pro- ; moters of the match had tho hearty support of the Transport Board. Expressing the thanks of his team for the reception Mr. Leah said Wellington tramwaymen always looked forward to a visit to the Queen City and it was an education to visit the various centres. "I was very much impresed by the play of the team which won the Chatham Cup,” remarked Mr. Leah “If the Rugby team is up to the same standard we shall have worthy opponents.” On the call of Mr. L. E. Rhodes, the board gave three cheers for the visitors, which was similarly replied to by the Wellingtonians.
