TRAMWAY EXTENSIONS
WORK WILL START IN FEW DAYS’ TIME ACCEPTANCE OF TENDERS Excavation work on the new tramway extensions on the Point Chevalier and Dominion Road districts will begin in a few days now. fpHE information was given at this • morning’s meeting of the Transport Board by the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, when contract tenders for the excavations were being considered. For the Point Chevalier extension the following four tenders were received: —Jones and Medley, £6,254; H. Bray and Co., £6,010; Brierly and McLeod, £4,230; and Stevenson and Son, £3,703. For the Dominion Road the tenders were;—Stevenson and Son, £4,673; Jones and Medley, £2,963; H. Bray and Co., £2,822; Brierly and McLeod, £2,373. The hoard decided on the motion of Mr. A. J. Entrican to accept the lowest tender in each instance and to hold the second lowest.
