PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

The Papakura Town Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. James McCall, presiding. The pollution of the drain from the Dairy Factory was again discussed A letter was received from Dr. J. B. Page criticising the action of the board in coming to an agreement with the New Zealand Dairy Company providing for the regular cleaning of the drain twice a year. The chairman advised leaving the Health Department to deal with the question. A deputation, for whom Mr. Jos. Rae acted as spokesman, said the sports club was being revived, and asked the board to grade a track on Prince Edward Park. It was decided to request the reserves committee, with Mr. Leitch added, to confer with Mr. J. Rae and his committee, with power to act. The Harbour Board wrote suggesting that a suitable landing-place for the handling of shell and sand was at the foot of Wharf Street. The site at Cole’s Crescent was unsuitable on account of shallow water. If the board accepted the site at Wharf Street the Harbour Board would be willing to grant a licence at a nominal fee to construct the roadway across the beach. The offer was accepted, but it was decided not to proceed with the recommendation of the Works Committee to form and metal the road, until the board knows what the carriers are prepared to do to help the project.
