“DAYLIGHT ROBBERY"

PRODUCERS CONDEMN NEW DAIRY CONTRACTS WITHDRAWAL DEMANDED Press Association INVERCARGILL, Today. Strong opposition to the Dairy Board’s new cheese contracts was expressed at a meeting of factory directors attended by 40 representatives, one member describing a clause in the contract as “daylight robbery.” Mr. T. M. Timpany placed the position of the board before the meeting, and later retired on account of what he deemed “propaganda tactics” by his opponents. A resolution was carried: “That this meeting, fully representative of Southland dairy producers, being emphatically of the opinion that the proposed contracts for the sale of cheese and butter are seriously opposed. to the interests of the industry, strongly condemns the action of the board in approving the butter contract. We request the board to withdraw its acceptance of this contract and not to ratify any further sale or contracts without referring same to producers through their dairy associations.”

The meeting decided that the South Island Dairy Association should advise all associated factories not to effect any f.o.b. contracts except under the terms laid down in the association's present contract form, until new contracts have been approved by the association.
