ZEPPELIN NEARS COAST
WORLD CRUISE DRAWS TO A CLOSE ‘ALL WELL ABOARD” (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.10 a.m. NEW YORK, Sunday. The Graf Zeppelin, having escaped threatening storms, is proceeding toward the Pacific Coast of America at a speed of approximately 80 miles an hour with favourable weather, probably for the duration of the voyage. "All well aboard” is the latest report, and the dirigible is expected to reach California late today. Preparations for its reception at Los Angeles are now complete. A later message received in Philadelphia states that the Zeppelin at 5 o’clock this afternoon, local time, was running on a southerly course toward California, with approximately 400 miles to go before reaching San Francisco. The message said: "Making for Upper California coast. We will not visit Seattle. Storm heading over northern portion Pacific; may go direct to Los Angeles. Our position 130 deg. west, 39.45 north.” This position puts the Zeppelin 360 miles off the coast west of Cape Mendocino. The big airship left Tokyo last Thursday morning, carrying mails for America and Germany. When it reaches Lakehurst, New Jersey, it will have completed its trip around the world.
