PLEA BY DEAD GIRL’S FATHER
Mystery of Elsie Walker’s Fate REOPENING OF INQUEST SOUGHT /•Special to THE SUX) OPOTIKI, Today. ANXIOUS to clear up the mystery of his daughter s death, Mr. C. D. Walker, father of Elsie Walker, has requested the Attorney-General, the Hon. T. K. Sidey, M.P., to reopen the inquest.
Acting on behalf of Mr. Walker, Messrs. Potts and Hodgson, solicitors, of Opotiki, forwarded a letter to the Attorney-General, the Hon. T. K. Sidey, on Friday. “We need not enlarge on Mr. Walker’s feelings,” the letter states, “as his daughter died under most tragic circumstances.” It is pointed out that a number of individuals who could give further evidence at the time of the previous inquiry, had not done so, not wishing to be mixed up in the proceedings. “The recent publication of correspondence between Mrs. Thomason and Mrs. Bayley has put an entirely new complexion on the matter,” the
letter continues, “and Mr. Walker considers that now a lead has been given, others in Te Puke will not be so reluctant to come forward. We believe this correspondence has been in the hands of the police for two months, and they have no dcubt been pursuing the matter. “The girl's father thinks there is now an opportunity for the mystery to be cleared up once and for all, and he earnestly asks that you give the subject your most earnest consideration and order a reopening of the inquest.” The letter, which left Opotiki on Friday, will reach the Attorney-Geu-eral today.
