“RIO RITA”

“Rio Rita,” the musical comedy which has achieved such phenomenal success overseas, will make its first appearance in Auckland at the s?t. James Theatre on Friday, September 6- • , “Rio Rita” abounds in lilting musical numbers, the chief vocal feature being “Rio Rita,” sung by Leslie Pearce and “Rita,” Gladys Moncrieff. “If You're in Love, You'll “Waltz,” is another musical hit embellished with a beautiful “moonlight” ballet. “The Black and White” ballet will prove one of the most effective chorus dances that has ever been seen in Auckland. “The March of the Rangers” and “Are You There f” axe two very catchy numbers. The piece abounds with beautiful girls. In the tableau, “Montezuma’s Daughter,” the stage will be literally overflowing with them. "Rio Rita,” which is a tale of the Mexican border, will be interpreted by a specially organised company headed by Gladys Moncrieff, back again after her triumphs on the London stage. Miss Moncrieff is universally known for her work in “The Maid of the Mountains.” Among the supporting players are Leslie Pearce, in the chief male role of Captain Jim, Dave Mallem, a prominent American comedian, and Janette Gilmour, also an American importation. The company will include several dozen singers and dancers. Special low prices are announced by the “Rio Rita” season, and next Monday morning the box plan will open at the theatre for the dress circle and orchestral stalls only, for the first six night. The plans for the grand circle will open on Tuesday morning.
