Tli© Taumarunui Borough Council lias made a new departure in the method of dealing with breaches of the traffic by-laws. Hitherto the matter of prosecution has lain finally with the council, but the method has not proved very workable, in the opinion of the councillors, and it was resolved that in future the traffic inspector be given power to deal direct with such cases. The president, Mr. A. L. Boss, has donated a trophy for competition among members of the Matiere Golf Club, and other trophies have been given for play during the remainder of tlio season. The club possesses a great many young members, and it is hoped to increase their interest in the various competitions.

The Te Kuiti Boxing Association has decided to enter the following nominees in the Taumarunui Boxing Association’s tournament, to be held on September 7:—E. Gilbert, light-weight; E. Churcher, bantam-weight; E. Petersen, boy; and T. Mullins, middleweight. The Taumarunui body has appointed Messrs. W. Walmsley and A. Venn a deputation to attend the next Frankton tournament, with a view to obtaining entries from local boxers. The Public Trustee has advised the Oliura County Council that its application for a £5,000 loan for road works is under consideration and that later advice would be sept as to whether the Public Trust Office would be prepared to take up the advance. The council has written Mr. F. Langstone, M.P expressing appreciation of the valuable services lie had rendered the county in this subject. • • • A well-attended shoot conducted by the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club resulted:—No. 1 handicap: E. Light - foot, 1; A. J. Richards and F. E. Cox, tie, 2. No. 2 handicap: E. Lightfoot, 1; R. F. Harris and N. Prussing, tie. 2. No. 3 handicap: E. Lightfoot, 1; A. .T. Richards, 2. No. 4 handicap: It. F. Harris, 1. N. Prussing won the walkup shoot of five birds.
