SQUALLING BABY DEPOSITED IN THEATRE LOUNGE
A TTKACTED by a muffled crying from behind the door of the womens’ lounge and cloakroom during last ev.ening’s performance at St, James Theatre, the dress-circle attendant investigated and found a baby lying wrapped in a coat in the corner. The child had evidently been parked by the owner to be left until called for. The attendant hastily searched for the mother, who was eventually found about 9.30, but not b€;fore a number of women in the dress-circle had been astonished at a whispered query as to whether they had left a baby in the cloakroom. When last seen, the woman was trying to pacify the child in the foyer. Perhaps Frank O’Brian’s popularity as a comedian is to blame for this apparent strange case of suspended maternal affection.
