GREAT ATHLETES

the many athletes I have known (says C. W. Packford), there are three whose individual personality, apart from their ath'et.c achievements, has made them rather stand out in one’s memory. They are Paavo Nurmi, Eric Liddell, and Captain Halswelle, who was the victim of a happening on the track which we hope will never be repeated. ..Halswelle was a victim of the war; Liddell we hope to welcome at the next A.A.A. championships on his return from China; and Nurmi may yet make his reappearance on the track.
