THREE NARROW DEFEATS A PROMISING PLAYER Although securing but three victories as against seven defeats, the position of the Parnell first eleven in the Auckland Cricket Association’s i senior A grade competition during the past season is not as serious as might be imagined, according to the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the club on September 12. Three of the defeats were by the extraordinarily narrow margins of one, two and five runs. This lack of success is attributed almost wholly to absence of stability in batting. P. E. AVhitelaw, in scoring 334 runs ! at 47.7 per innings, headed the batting averages, and was to be congratulated j on the attainment of these figures in I his first season as a senior grade player. A.
