“PUNISHED ENOUGH”
MADDOX FACES BREACHES OF ARMS ACT AUTOMATIC CONFISCATED “He has been punished enough; he had to stand his trial," commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when Robert Maddox appeared at the Magistrate’s Court this morning on four charges involving breaches of the Arms Act. Maddox faced two charges of possessing unregistered firearms, one of possessing an unlawful weapon, and a fourth of having ammunition for an unlawful weapon. He pleaded guilty on all counts. “On the charge of having an automatic pistol Maddox is liable to a fine of £IOO or three months’ imprisonment,” said Chief-Detective Hammond. “A similar penalty could be imposed for having ammunition also. All we ask is for the confiscation of the weapon.” The Magistrate: Is it a war relic? Maddox: I had it before the war. “He had quite an armoury,” added the chief-detective. “It is silly of a man to keep things like that. They can be of no value or use to him.” Maddox was ordered to pay the costs and hand over the weapon to the police. “It is fortunate for him that the automatic wouldn't work,” observed the magistrate before the next case was called.
