MAYOR AND LEAGUERS

LANGUID “JIMMY” WALKER KEPT THEM WAITING AUSTRALIANS AT NEW YORK (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.34 a.m. NEW YORK, Wed. Following a short stopover at Toronto, where they were entertained by the athletic directorate of the university, and made a visit to the Niagara Falls, the Australian League footballers arrived here today for a rapid sight-seeing tour before sailing at midnight by the Aquitania. They visited Coney Island this morning and were received in the afternoon by Mayor J. J. Walker.

Although, according to his usual procedure, he kept them waiting 45 minutes, he made a felicitous speech of welcome. Responding to Mr. Sunderland’s hope that he would visit Australia, he declared that nothing would give him greater pleasure. The footballers then proceeded to a local movie studio, where they made a short talkie, and thence were taken to see a baseball game and for a run through the various parts of the city. Mr. Sunderland told the Australian Press Association that the team was in the finest fettle, and in high spirits. “They have never felt better, and are on their toes," he said. Members of the team are unanimous in praise of the comfortable arrangements made for the transcontinental trip.
