MR. COUSINS’S WORK APPRECIATED EDUCATIONALISTS’ PRAISE Another tribute by educationalist* was paid Mr. H. G. Cousins, the retiring principal of the Training CoUeg% yesterday afternoon. A farewell was given by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute- Mr. Spenceley Walker, the president, was in the chair, and the attendance included Sir George Fowlds. president of the council ef the University College; members of the University Professorial Board, members of the Education Board; and several headmasters. Mr. Cousins’ service as a member of the institute was explained by Mr. Walker, who said the retiring principal had helped to raise the status of teachers. Mr. Cousins set a definite standard as headmaster of the Norma! School, and later principal of the Training College,” Mr. Walker raid. "He has risen with the growth of the college, and has had a wonderful influence on younger members of the teaching profession. He has shown excellent powers of organisation sad administration. and the institutt thanks him for his fine work.” *T have watched Mr. Cousins’s career with pride,” said Sir George Fowkls- ■ His rise to the position of principal has been an example to young teachers. and his influence has been valuable. Because of his excellent training, Mr. Cousins will leave his mark in education in the province.” Sir George considered Mr. would still take an interest in education. For the Education Board, Mr. Jlioddie said the members had always held Mr. Cousins in esteem. The appreciation of students leaving Training College indicated the principals work. In returning thanks for the tributes. Mr. Cousins mentioned that nearly 3,0t>0 students had passed through the | college during his service. He praised the efforts of the college staff.
