RUGBY UNION TO MEET DEPUTATION CANTERBURY’S REQUEST

The resolution was passed following a discussion regard to the request of the Canterbury Rugby Union that a referee from outside of Auckland might be appointed to control the Canterbury v. Auckland game to be played at Auckland on August 31. The letter concludes: —“It was also decided that a deputation consisting of the president of the Referees’ Association be appointed to convey the resolution to the union’s management committee.” With no discussion as to its contents or import, the letter was received. A special meeting of the Management Committee to meet the referees’ deputation was fixd for 4.45 p.m. on Friday evening. THE BONE OF CONTENTION WHAT AMENDED RULES ARE The amended rules under which Rugby in Auckland is played are. briefly, as follow: (1) The game is played in four spells, instead of two. (2) A kick at goal from a try or mark cannot be charged. (3) The referee puts the ball in the scrum. (4) When a sc,rum is formed, no player may advance beyond an imaginary line parallel with the goal lines, drawn past the back row of each set of forwards, until the ball is clear of the scrum.
