EX-CRICKETER’S DEATH
CAPTAINED NEW ZEALAND Press Association . WELLINGTON, Teday. The death occurred last night of Mr. Arnold Williams, aged 59, a wellknown batsman and w’icketkeeper, who played for New Zealand against Australian and English teams. His largest score was 163 for Wellington against Canterbury in 1897. Against Captain Wynyard's side in 1906 he made lto and 14, and 19 and 72 not out. _The late Mr. Williams ranged with C. Boxshall (Canterbury) and R. W. Rowntree (Auckland) as one of the finest wicketkeepers New Zealand has produced. He was also a very sound hatsmarL H* captained New Zealand In the second test against England in 1906. His partnership with Hadden (Auckland) and tl* fowling of Upham (Wellington) were the chief factors in New Zealand’s victory.
