RUGBY CLASH WITH WELLINGTON

TRAMWAY REPS. UNION AFFAIRS Tramway stalwarts from Auckland and Wellington will meet in a Rugby clash at Eden Park next Wednesday. Permission for the use of the park was granted the Tramways Club by the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union which met last evening. ATR- A. ST.C. The Marist Old Boys’ Club applied for permission to play a. challenge match for the Spillane Cup against Wellington Marist Old Boys. A grant out of the gate toward Wellington’s expenses was also asked for. It was stated that Auckland, being unable to send a team South, Wellington has agreed to travel if helped financially. The iSpillane Cup was for competition among Marist Old Boys and inspired keen competition in Wellington, Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay. It was decided to advise the .dub that the committee regretted being unable to grant financial assistanr-e. but was prepared to do everything possible to assist in other ways, .including rinding a ground on which the gam- could be played. In accordance with the suggestion of Mr. P. McElwaine. Thames Rugby j Union representative, it was decided to \ send the Auckland B reps, to play i Thames on August 31 by boat.
