FLOODS AT WELLINGTON

An exceptionally heavy southerly storm -with fierce gusts of -wind and continuous rain has flooded part of the flats in the suburb of Miramar, where drainage works hare only lately been started and are not yet complete. The water is a foot and more deep in places, and some houses are cut off. The pumping station which deals with the sewage is unable to cope with the extra water and sewage is finding its way into the flood waters The railway line to the Hutt, which usually suffers in a bad southerlv is not damaged so far. After the break early in the winter a quantity of heavv concrete blocks from the demolitions in the city was secured by the Railway Department and they were placed as a curtain in the worst places.
