PLAZA
“THE MIDNIGHT TAXI” The audiences at the Plaza Theatre are acclaiming Warner Brothers’ “The Midnight Taxi” as one of the biggest thrillers seen here in the talkie line. Gregory Rogers did the story. The all-star cast is headed by Antonio Moreno and Helene Costello. Myrna Loy, William Russell and Bobbie Agile w are also on the roster of players. John Adolfi directed. “The Midnight Taxi” gets its name from the fleet of taxis with which the king of bootleggers, played by Moreno, conveys the liquor—brought from Europe to the 12-mile limit, and by boat to the docks —to Canada. Bootleggers cope with hi-jackers. Each suspects the other. Bonds have been stolen, and two girls mysteriously appear on the scene —one of them, Helene Costello, trying to unearth the thieves, partly because her sweetheart is accused; the other, Myrna Loy, a confederate of the gang. Airplanes figure in this hair-raiser — the hero and heroine flying over a runaway train and dropping to it, where a rough and tumble fight ensues. Cops arrive and all is set to right. “The Midnight Taxi” is one of the most exciting thief-chases ever filmed, and one of the best arguments that the crook cannot win. The Plaza’s programme also includes several new Vitagraph all-talkie features. Chief among these are songs and items by Lfcaphne Pollard, one of England's famous comediennes; comedy by O’Neill and Vermont; songs by the Harrington Sisters; songs by Allan Prior, the celebrated Australian tenor; and jazz by Roger Kahn’s Orchestra. Finally, there are some amazing scenes of an airplane refuelling in midair during a 150* hours’ record endurance flight. WEST COASTERS’ ASSOCIATION A social evening at which dancing and cards will be enjoyed will be held in-St. Benedict’s Hall tomorrow evening under the auspices of the West Coasters’ Association. Morrow’s Orchestra will provide the music.
