“BLACK MAGIC”
WITCHCRAFT FILM Is it possible to hypnotise a person against his will? This is one of the many interesting questions raised in “Black Magic.” a Fox Film picture of sorcery and witchcraft in the South Seas. As the initial step in an elaborate “terror plot,” which forms the main theme of the story, a native Papuan witch-doctor hypnotises a white man and makes him simulate the actions of a monkey. To be absolutely certain that this could be accomplished, George B. Seitz, director, and his staff make an intensive research into the literature of hypnotism. and found evidence among the experts that under certain conditions, such “unwilling hypnosis” is quite within the realms of possibility. Josephine Bunn, John Holland and Henry B. 'Walthall have the featured roles in the production.
Bina Hope, comedienne in “Fox Movietone Follies,” was a featured performer in repertoire on the London stage Before the movies lured her to Hollywood. She has travelled around the world several times with her own repertoire company and is very popular in the British colonial possessions
