CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES COMMENCE TIES IN THE FOURSOMES (United I*.A.—By Telegraph—Copyriyht ADELAIDE, Tuesday. The Australian golf championship tournament was commenced at Seaton links in perfect weather. In the foursomes amateur championship Ivo Whitton and Leagh Winser tied with F. Bulte and W. J. Fowler (each 154). Whitton and Winser gave nothing away on the greens. All day they played remarkably steady golf for 7S and 7(1. Nigel Smith and 11. Morrison and Sloan Morpeth and H. Hattersley also tied with 156 each. The holders of the foursomes title, Bettington and Hunter, were not present to defend the title. In the professional event, stroke play. 36 holes, Rufus Stewart returned a splendid 72 for his second round, finishing with a six-yard putt. His score was 146. Then came W. Bolger. 147: F. Eyre, 147_: J. Mclntosh, 154: A. J. Shaw, 155. In the inter-State matches Victoria beat New South Wales by four matches to three; Victoria beat South Australia by five matches to two.
