Fifty-mile Road Race The Otago centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided to forgo its claim to the New Zealand 50-mile road cycling championship in favour^ of Canterbury. Fire at Edendale At about 9.30 last evening a fird broke out at a house in Camborne Road, Edendale. The Mount Albert Fire Brigade answered the call. One of the five rooms was damaged. The house is owned and occupied by Alr« C. Barker. No Appearance There was no appearance in the Hamilton Police Court this morning ofl Beth Patton, alias Myra AlcKeman, alias Marion Alice Vincent, charged with the theft of silk stockings and linen. The police advised that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. • * ♦ Stole a Bicycle In the Palmerston North Police Court this morning, Robert Joseph, Sorenson was sentenced to 14 days’ hard labour for the theft of a bicycle worth £ll. The police said t'i» bicycle was taken from the passageway of an hotel.—P A. * * » Wellington and Rtigby Referees The 'Wellington Rugby Union is in favour of appointing outside referees for inter-provincial matches, and supported the proposal when it was put forward by the New Zealand Union. It is offering visiting sides the option of selecting outside men.—P.A.
