TEACHING FARMERS

INSTRUCTION COURSES ADVOCATED More co-operation between technical education authorities and primary producers was advocated at the Education Board this morning by Mr. R. Hoe. Three points prepared by Mr. Hoe are to go as remits to the conference of the Technical Education Association. Mr. Hoe wanted to see cooperation with primary producers and gave it as his view that secretaries of large dairy companies, acquainted with farming and commercial interests, could give valuable assistance in drawing up a course of instruction in technical schools. Part-time education for working farmers was Mr. Hoe’s second point. The idea had once been taken up but had since been dropped. He understood that, at the Massey Agricultural college, winter courses for farmers were being developed. The raising of the status of trade instructors in schools and the payment of grade 1 salaries to them was also advocated. Mr. Hoe said the instructors were specialised in their departments.
