SOLID QUARTET

SOUTH AUCKLANDERS IN NORTH ISLAND LEAGUE SIDE NGARUAWAHLA unlucky (From Our Own Correspondent) HUNTLY, Tuesday. The selection of four South Auckland forwards in the North Island League team has given general satisfaction in the Waikato, especially as the Huntly crack trio, Timm?, Troutvetter and Stephenson, have been chosen, and this leaves a front row that understands one another’s play to a hair’s breadth. Abbott’s omission, however, was a blow to Leagueites, as h§ was confidently expected to complete the quintet from the Waikato. Tittleton’a omission in the tlireequarter line was also a disappointment. Ngaruawahia had hard luck in not securing a place for him or Abbott. After his play in Huntly recently, the selection of Shorthand was a big surprise locally, but ho will be a different half behind the pack with Stephenson hooking. Your correspondent has seen Bergan in action many times, and the breakaway selected is very last, and can anticipate a movement very quickly. He should come through with credit, but would be even better in the back division. Whichever way the match goes, Bergan can be relied on in big football, and can take any place on the field at a moment’s notice. Behind the pack selected, with his speed he should be seen to advantage. Mad he the experienced generalship of Jones (the South Auckland breakaway and skipper of the team that played the • Englishmen at Taupiri last season), the Northerner would not lack any qualification for the big job in hand. It is understood that Mr. Arthur Harloek, of Huntly, the leading League referee of New Zealand, has been approached with a view to refereeing the contest. Should Mr. Harloek accede to the request, this will leave no room for doubt as to the ability of the man controlling the game and a great contest should take place. There will be no doubt of a Waikato influx to Auckland for the match, and a record Waikato visiting crowd is assured.
