BEEF SLIGHTLY EASIER

WESTFIELD STOCK SALE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. The heaviest aggregate yarding of fat cattle for several weeks this morning met with a slightly easier market. There was a big percentage of heavy-weight steers. Best young ox made up to 43s a hundred; best young cow and heifer beef made to 40s a hundred. An offering of approximately 320 head of steer beef was mixed, and there was not the percentage of mediumweight beef noticeable at late sales. While there was a bigger offering of heavy prime steers, there was ateo a noticeable increase in the number of light-weight unfinished cattle forward. There were many pens, in fact, well below fat section standard. A steady demand was registered throughout, but there was not quite the keenness of last week, and prices were slightly lower, a big portion of the offering being sold at under 40s a. hundred. No Wairarapa or Hawke’s Bay cattle were entered, but provincial graziers contributed freely, and there were a number of well-finished small lines from the Bay of Plenty. Top price of the day was secured for a line of 23 exceptionally well-fin-ished solid-boned steers on account G. Vosper, Cambridge. The line made from £l7 IQs to £2O 10s for a pen sold to R. E. Stott. Birkenhead. Smaller framed, but exceptionally well-done cattle on account H. E. Reed, Waerenga, made from £l6 15s to £lB. One truck of medium to heavy prime steers on account C. E. Sampson, Te Kauwhata, made from £ls to £l6 15s. Another truck of light to heavyweight steers on account of A. N. Gibbons, Morrinsviile, made from £l3 17s 6d to £l6 IQs. Sixteen well-finished heavy prime steers on account Trewin Bros, Marohemo, made from £ls to £l7 lcs. Sixteen heavy prime steers on account Taylor Bros.. Taupiri, made from £l6 17s 6d to £lB. Nine handy-weight steers on account T. ,T. Murray, Tuakau, made from £ls 17s 6d to £l6 15s. Fourteen medium -weight steers on account .Tas. Tavlor, Cambridge, made from £ls to £l6. Ten handy-weight steers on account E. G. Browne. Hinuera, made from £l3 15s to £ls. One truck of exceptionally well-fin-ished big-framed steers on account C. O. Stewart. Ohinewai, made from £lB IQs to £2O ss. Sixteen light to heavy prim« steers on account Iloldsworth Bros.. Whaka - tone, made from £l3 10s to £l6 17s 6^Twenty -four well-finished big-boned steers on account .T. Price. Matamata, made from £lB 7s 6d to £l9 12s 6d. The quality of the cow and heifer offering was mixed. There were practically no choice quality station lines offering. The biggest percentage comprised superior finished dairy sorts.
