MOVE TOWARD BRIDGE

EXPLORATION OF HARBOUR BED ARRANGING OF DETAILS An assurance that the £I,OOO promised by the Government for preliminary work on the Harbour Bridge scheme would be spent entirely on investigations of the harbour bed was given yesterday afternoon by tba Minister of Public Works, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, to the president of the Harbour Bridge Association, Mr. R. H. Greville. The Minister stated the Government would in addition pay the costs of the commission which will shortly be set up. At the request of Mr. Ransom, Mr. Greville and Mr. Jones, honorary engineer to the association, will visit Wellington on Thursday to confer with the Minister and Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, to arrange ail details. Mr. Greville statett that the officials of the association hoped to commence business in earnest now that the first practical steps were being taken.
