Chief Detective A. Hammond, who has been visiting: Christchurch, has returned to Auckland. Sir Edwin Mitchelson and Lady Mitrhelson left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. A. H. Laybourn, postmaster at Taupiri, has been promoted to postmaster at .Newmarket. The Hon. C. J. Carrington, M.L.C., who was in Dargaville over the weekend, left on Monday for Wellington. The Hon. J. B. Gow, the Hon. W. Stewart and the Hon. G. J. Garland, members of the Legislative Council, returned to Wellington last evening. The following Members of Parliament returned to Wellington by the Limited last evening: H. R. Jenkins, W. J. Jordan, W. Parry, H. G. R. Mason, M. J. Savage and A, W. Hall. Mr. H. R. Jenkins, M.P., recentlyappointed member of the Auckland University College Council, attended his first meeting yesterday and was welcomed by the president. Sir George Kowlds.
