BASKETBALL
ROTORUA On Saturday a team of Hamilton girls journeyed to Rotorua to try conclusions with the Rotorua representatives. By superior combination, and knowledge of the finer points of the game, the visitors succeeded in defeating Rotorua by 21 points to 5. Special mention must be made of Miss Vera Bliss, who scored IS out of the -1 points obtained by Hamilton. The scores are little indication of the respective merits of the teams. Rotorua played a sterling game against its more experienced opponents. KAIKOHE A schools’ basketball tournament was held at Kaikohe yesterday f<? r the Herbert Smith Trust Cup. Six teams participated and there was a large attendance .of spectators. The tourney was marred by a very heavy shower of rain. Results: First Round.—Kaikohe Native beat Ohaewai,22o;0 —0; Waikato had a bye: Xgawha beat Kaikohe Public School, B — l. Semi-final. —Kaikohe Native beat Waihou, 16—1; Ngawha beat OkaihaU, 4 3. Final.—Ngawha beat Kaikohe Native, 54. In the two last games extra time had to be played before Ngawha scored the winning points. PAEROA A basketball tournament in connection with the Paeroa School played at Paeroa on Saturday last between teams from Morrinsville, Ngatea, Paeroa, Tauranga, Te Aroha and Waihi Schools, Thames being unat L to compete. A very keen game resulted and some real good play was exhibited. The A final was carried off by rinsville, which defeated Tauranga W 8 points to 3. Waihi won the B final defeating Morrinsville by 5 points to •
