THAMES

A representative match between Morrinsville and Thames will be played here next Saturday on the High School ground. Thames will be represented by the following;—Backs, Winder, Buchan, Hobson, Moran, Dufty, Harrison, Wells; forwards, Lomas (captain), W. Percy, Brunton. Strange, G. Pollock, Kinlock, G. Percy, W. Pollock (rover). .Emergencies.—O’Hara. Kelly, Adams, and C. Cameron. Mustering only 13 players the City Club, captained by A. Lomas, was badly beaten by College Old Boys on Saturday. The game was played in a gale of wind on the High School ground, which was in perfect condition. The C.0.8.’s scored 21 points—six tries and a penalty. R. Buchan secured two tries and goaled from a penalty, A. Dobson also scored twice, and W, Kelly and W. Percy one try each. A. Winder put City’s three points up by a penalty goal. T. Dufty, F. Moran and A. Winder had plenty to do in defending their citadel from the continuous onslaughts of the whites. With two men short in the forwards, Lomas and Company never had a let-up. The C. 0.8. backs handled the ball well, and made play open; four of the tries came from passing movements. The result of the game virtually assures Old Boys the championship. Mr. H. O. Brownlee had charge of the whistle. The superior combination of the High School boys gained them victory over the third grade Physical Training team, whom they defeated by 17 points to 11. The coaching of the High School master, Mr. J. Silby, who by the way, is an ex-King Country rep., has improved the boys’ play 100 per cent. Their display on Saturday was of high standard. While taking part in the College Old Boys-City football match on Saturday afternoon, Alan Morrissey, the wellknown athlete and representative footballer, and captain of the Old Boys’ team, was solidly tackled in the early stage of the game, and suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder. The injury was attended to at the Thames Hospital. The Thames B representatives paid a visit to Mercury Bay last Saturday to play the elect of the Bay Union. The home team had a lead of 8 points with 10 minutes to go. Thames rallied and scored twice, and Willets con-

verted one try, thus giving Thames a win by one point. The scores were: Thames, 19; Mercury Bay, 18.
