DEVONPORT ORPHANS

CLUB ENTERTAINS session of the Devonport Orphans’ Club on Saturday evening was presided over by Mr. W. Perry Taylor. Apologies were tendered for" the absence of the Onehunga Orphan Club and Auckland Savage Club. Tlie visitors included the Rev. F. J. Martin and Mr. W. K. I-lowitt. Th ® club band, under the baton of Dr. Trevor de Clive Lowe, played two much-appreciated overtures. Concert items were contributed by Messrs. Jock Bruce. W. Marks, Rex Tates, F. Jones, while an exhibition of how blue metal, burned brick, and concrete may be crushed by a blow from the naked hand was given by Mr. Snell He also illustrated that a piece of string, wire, or a thick rope may be toi n in two by stretching it.
