FIRE IN THEATRE

CONFINED TO OPERATING BOX DESTRUCTION OF FILM (From Our Own Correspondent) TE KUITI, Today. Shortly before 3.30 on Saturday afternoon fire broke out in the operating box of the Empress Theatre, Te Kuiti, during the course of a children’s matinee and singing competition. The outbreak was caused through a film becoming ignited. Fortunately the fire was confined to the operating box. and apart from the destruction of the film and the projector being temporarily put out of commission, no outside damage was caused. The theatre was well filled with children at the time, but all left the building without mishap.
