J. Jordan, M.P., in the course of a speech at the final smoke concert of the One Tree Hill Fire Brigade, held at the station at Green Lane on Saturday evening. Mr. J. S. Hardwicke, chairman of the One Tree Hill Road Board, presided, and those present included Mr. Wi J. Jordan, M.F., Mr. R. H. Hollingsworth, captain of the brigade, and members of many district fire stations. The road district is now covered by the Auckland Fire Board. For 30 years One Tree Hill did not even have a water supply, said Mr. R. G. Clark, a former chairman of the board, who gave an account of the early trials of the brigade and the district. The presentation of medals, donated by the road board to the members of the brigade, was made by Mr. Clark, who said that many of the firemen had served in the brigade since its inception 17 years ago. The presentation of decorations for years of service; was made by Mr. Jordan. A programme of songs and orchestral numbers was also given. _____
